Area Report - Windscreen November/December Issue 169
December is like most other area’s the quietest month for Yorkshire, that said we have two traditional featured events to allow members to escape the family mince pies and gather together. Our December monthly meeting again was the best attended meeting, the consensus is that the feature pie and peas, with a mince pie for dessert, brings in the crowds from the cold.

However, for some of us it’s lure of perhaps biggest raffle in the history of mankind which is a firm favourite. And of course, not to forget our traditional game of “Higher or Lower” hosted by Mr Brian Fox.

For regular readers Yorkshire in December means – The Yorkshire Christmas Cracker Run held this year on Saturday 29th December. A bright and breezy day covering around 40 miles of the Yorkshire Dales. 27 Vehicles and around 60 bodies made the effort to get of the Christmas sofas and meet in Wetherby for tea, coffee and even a bacon butty to tie the group over until lunch! Simon Roberts organised a great road run through varied countryside to the final destination of the ‘Millstones’ restaurant and bar on the A59 Harrogate to Skipton Road. We had some great scenery along the way passing three of the most scenic reservoirs in the region. For those of you who want a video summary of the run from one of our members, Do check out: https://www.facebook.com/simon.balding.7/videos/10213402877495240/

We can report that everybody arrived in good order with no breakdowns along the way. The restaurant provided a splendid carvery for the cold and hungry (which was most of the group). Brian Slingsby reports that he was honoured to combine our ‘Ofsted inspection’ with a surprise visit on the run from COM member Tim Hawkes who was visiting family locally and decided to join us for the day, hitching a ride with Valentine Travers in his ‘42 Ford Jeep, we think that Yorkshire passed muster okay?

Happy and safe 2019 to all and here’s to our next main event the ‘crank up’ on Sunday 14th April in York City Centre.
