Stuart's
Lucky Find

Whilst searching on eBay, I noticed an advert for a Fordson Wot 6 lorry. I noticed in the background of the picture, several other military vehicles. With the seller being local, I decided to try and find the place. A few phone calls turned up a possible site. It turned out to be a local scrapyard in Leeds which had been sold for development. Everything on site, had to be removed, or would become the property, of the new landowner.

| All the vehicles in question were lined up away from the main scrapyard area. They included British Bedfords QLS, QLR, QLT & a rare QLW Tipper, a Fordson Wot 6 machinery truck, a Canadian C15TA 15cwt truck, and a Post War Morris Commercial MRA1 15cwt. In addition there was a Coventry Climax fire pump, very complete, and a very rare Wartime British servicing greasing trailer, again in complete unrestored condition.

All the vehicles in question were in remarkably complete condition, with some paper work, code books & even radio equipment, found in some of the vehicles. The Pièce de résistance, was the fact that, over the years the yard had kept, in a 40ft container, a lot of spare parts that had come with the trucks when purchased from Ruddington. These parts were found, in the back of many of the trucks when originally purchased. They included, crated N.O.S. Bedford Engines, wings, doors, spare cabs, windscreens, petrol tanks, prop shafts, many cab panels, mudflaps, traffic indicators, windscreens wiper motors, complete Wartime dated, Bedford lorry covers, tons of engine & ancillary spares, tyres etc etc. All the vehicles & spares have now been sold with all but two of the items, being bought by YMVT members.
Thankfully I managed to do a deal, with the son of the scrapyard owner, to purchase the lot and move them with the help of Hindle Transport before they were scrapped.
