Harry
Kipling, from Holme on Spalding Moor had brought along an impressive
looking 1968 4x4 Saurer 2 DM, ex Swiss Army, which he has owned for 2
months. It is powered by an 8.2 diesel engine and he heaped endless
praise on its advanced features for the 1960’s.

|
Harry
pointed out that he deals in a number of things including classic car
parts and I suspect that this lorry is also for sale. If it is
something that might interest you his number is 01430 860300. |

Also
from 1968 was Peter Hicks forward control Land Rover 2B which he has
owned 8 or 9 years and rebuilt. Powered by a Rover 3 litre straight 6
engine the 4 wheel drive has to be selected. He tells me it was
designed originally as a gun tractor for a light gun and has a
completely flat load area. This comes in handy in the winter as a
‘garage’ for the 1933
Austin
7 Scout Car!

Fresh
to the area, was a lovely 1941 K2 Ambulance which Stuart Wright drove
home from
Colchester
on Saturday.
Fully
fitted out he tells me it came with a mountain of spares and full
history from the early 1950’s.

This
vehicle was rebuilt in 1993 by the previous owner Roy ( Lofty )
Tolhurst. It won an impressive list of prizes when it first appeared
rebuilt.
Stuart says
he intends to apply his own restoration standards to it shortly and is
really pleased to own a classic British vehicle. Although I suspect
that this was not used in the film Ice
Cold in Alex he has a photograph of my favourite actor, John
Mills, driving it.

This
was yet another impressive event for the Area organised again by Chris
Smyth and our thanks go out to him and Ian Anderson. We were
incredibly lucky again with the weather which can either make or break
this type of gathering.
