I
was involved with the Dad's Army filming with the truck in November. It took place in the Old Town Bridlington, on Monday 17th. On Sunday night the Jimmy started to misfire, so I set to to solving the Issue. At 5 oclock Monday morning, after replacing everything twice, I calmly
( not really ) realised and resigned myself that it was most likely the head gasket failing between two pots.
As I had to be on set at 7.00am, I Just drove down on 4 cylinders.
Tired and slightly stressed , I perked up after
a cup of coffee and bacon butty from the catering unit. The wardrobe department had given my uniform to the wrong person, so it was a good job I came in the correct attire. Katherine Z Jones and all the other stars were there too.
It was quite an experience and I enjoyed the day. I was fascinated at the way the set makers fabricated buildings and props to look so real, it is simply amazing. However, I'm still struggling to imagine how they are going to succeed in making a gloomy wet northern town and coastline, look like the bright south coast and white cliffs of Dover,
especially filming in November.
A lot of the shooting went on around the Village of Bempton, not far from my house.
It was quite surreal seeing Katherine Zeta Jones siting on a chair in ploughed field, drinking a mug of tea, along with Tom Courtney and Gandolph from Harry Potter.
The GMC was in a short
scene driving through the narrow main street of Walmington-On-Sea ( Brid old
town ), past KZJ who was in a scene set outside Frazer's ( we're all dooomed ) undertakers shop. Whether or not this bit will end up on the cutting room floor will have to be seen, but the truck went well and sounded good, considering only half the engine was working. A big thank you goes to Brian Slingsby who made this possible.
