Mike Shackleton's Bedford OXD

1940 BEDFORD OXD 30cwt GS Lorry GMO 768

Acquired in October 2011.

Known history: Previous owner Mike Humphreys who bought it from Shane Lock in Devon in 2008. It was transported to Yorkshire by Bob Davies Transport Taunton . Rescued from a scrapyard by the previous owner Ken Willey and restored by him in the 1990’s. First ordered by the Army in 1939 and in limited production throughout the War. After 1940 mainly OXC tractor units were built. In total some 24, 429 in all guises were built which is approximately a third of the number of the larger OY.

Very few are known to exist, perhaps only 3 or 4. Most were worked to death after the War ended. Only two are listed in the 1981 book of Preserved Military Vehicles by Keith Jenkinson.

Rear wheel drive with 4 speed gearbox. Gear ratio 6.83:1
Brakes –hydraulic with servo.
